About Us
In 2014, several Bakersfield women entertained the possibility of establishing a home for women transitioning from homelessness to economic stability and permanent housing. They did so, recognizing that homeless women and children are the largest numbers in our society.
Casa Esperanza Transitional Home for Women was incorporated in December 2014 and is a 501 ©3 tax-exempt public benefit corporation.
Our home was purchased in 2020, and with immense financial, in-kind, and volunteer support from the community, it was remodeled to accommodate six women and their children. Casa Esperanza opened its doors to women and children in December 2022. Our Transitional Home currently houses six Families who experience the joys, education, and support designed for success as they complete their 24 months and transition to careers and permanent housing.
Casa Esperanza honors the inherent dignity and personal worth of the home’s women and children in every aspect of its operation. A positive self-image and a sense of worth are operative factors toward success in dealing with adversity. Hence, the physical dwelling itself reflects the dignity of its residents.
The program at Casa Esperanza is not just innovative, but also holistic. It enables residents to recognize their own abilities and assists them in acquiring benefits, all of which contribute to a healthy self-concept as a person of dignity and individual worth.
Casa Esperanza’s purpose is to create a lasting impact, breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty in Bakersfield, one family at a time. While the immediate focus is on homeless women, the lives of their children will be a testament to the transformative and sustainable impact made by Casa Esperanza.
